Carolyn D. Ashworth, M.D., F.A.A.P.

Bios


Dr. Carolyn Ashworth was raised in Wisconsin. She completed a Bachelor of Science Degree in Chemistry from Georgia State University. After two years of medical school at Emory University in Atlanta, she transferred to the University of Texas Southwestern Medical School and received her Doctor of Medicine Degree in 1973. She completed three years of internship at Children's Medical Center and served as Chief Resident in Pediatrics for an additional year. Dr. Ashworth has been in practice in Plano since 1981. She also is a full Clinical Professor in Pediatrics at the University of Texas Southwestern Medical School.

She takes an interest in speed walking, rollerblading, and scuba diving. She is a brown belt in Aikido and just earned her Level Two Certificate in Muay-Thai Kick Boxing. She has two children.

She was elected Chief of Medical Staff at Medical Center of Plano in 1996. Dr. Ashworth is presently President of Patient Physician Network of Plano and has completed a five year term on the Board of Trustees of the MCP.

Nurse Practitioners
A C.P.N.P. is a pediatric nurse with a master's degree in pediatrics. A nurse practitioner sees both well and sick children and works within the skill level of their training. They can prescribe medications, and examine, and treat many pediatric conditions independent of the pediatrician.
Chandra Garvey, R.N., C.P.N.P., was born in Chicago, Illinois, but has spent most of her life in Texas. She completed her undergraduate degree in nursing at Texas Woman's University with a minor in biology. For six and a half years she practiced as a registered nurse in the Pediatric Intensive Care Unit at Children's Medical Center of Dallas. During that time, she earned a Master's degree in nursing and completed her training as a pediatric nurse practitioner at Texas Woman's University.

Chandra has over 10 years experience as a nurse practitioner. She lives in Plano with her husband, John, and her three daughters. She enjoys shopping, scrapbooking, pilates, and spending time with her family and friends.



Cindy Wright, RN, CPNP, was born in Birmingham, AL, and has resided in Dallas for the past 10 years. She completed her undergraduate degree in nursing at the University of Alabama in Tuscaloosa, AL. She earned a Master's Degree in Nursing at the University of Alabama at Birmingham. She worked for 7 years at the Special Care Nursery at Children's Hospital of Alabama. She has over 10 years of experience as a nurse practitioner.

Cindy lives in Carrollton with her husband, Tom, and her two daughters. She enjoys cooking, reading, and spending time with her family and friends.


Pediatric Nurses
A pediatric nurse is trained to give medical care to infants and children. She is a registered nurse who has had pediatric experience and extensive post-graduate training in child care. She is capable of advising parents about common health problems and routine illnesses of children. In our office, she will usually answer your calls first.
Nurse Manager
Brenda Rakofsky, RN was born in Hillsboro, Kansas, but has spent most of her life in the Dallas area. She received her under graduate degree in nursing from Texas Woman’s University. She worked at Medical City Dallas for 12 years, first in the Pediatric Intensive Care Unit as a staff nurse, charge nurse and assistant nurse manager, and then on the Pediatric/Neonatal Transport Team.

Brenda joined Dr. Ashworth’s staff in 2000. She lives in Richardson with her husband, Paul, and has 2 grown sons.

Dietician

Karin Hosenfeld BS, RD/LD is a registered and licensed dietician in medical nutrition therapy. She will be in the office every Tuesday, beginning May 16.

Office Manager

Charlotte McCutchan serves as Office Manager and joined the Pediatric Associates' staff in 1994. Before joining Dr. Ashworth's practice, she served in a variety of roles in both office administration and education. Charlotte was born and raised in Oklahoma and moved to Texas to pursue her education as a business major at Southwestern AG University, and continued her studies at Crozier Tech while serving as an executive assistant in the insurance field. Charlotte is certified in Medical Office Management.

She lives in Plano with her husband, James, and has two children and two grandchildren. Her interests include sewing, crafts and volunteer work.
