Important Flu Vaccine Information

Jan 13, 2010
We've just received over 200 doses of H1N1 for babies and infants 6 months and older. So now we have seasonal flu and H1N1 for all ages. The H1N1 is free from the government and insurance is covering the cost of the administration fee. We will give the vaccines to all family members.

Jan 7, 2010
We have plenty of SEASONAL flu injection and mist. We have only the mist for the 3 year olds for the H1N1. For 4 years and up through adults, we have plenty of the H1N1 injection and mist. We have a limited supply of the H1N1 for the infants 6 months and older. Please make your appointments now as the seasonal flu has yet to hit and the second wave of H1N1 is expected. We will gladly do all family members.

Dec 10, 2009
We now have enough seasonal flu and H1N1 for anyone who wants to make an appointment. We have the mist for healthy children 2 and up. The injectable is for 6 months and up. All children under 9 years of age need 2 doses of the H1N1 spaced at least 28 days apart.

Dec 3, 2009
We now have plenty of SEASONAL flu injectable and nasal mist.We also have just received limited supplies of the H1N1 nasal mist, injectable for 4 years and older, and injectable for 6 month to 23 months. We have very little H1N1 for the 3 year olds.

Nov 19, 2009
We just got in a shipment of the H1N1 nasal mist for healthy children two years and up. We also got in more of the H1N1 shot. We still have FluMist for the seasonal flu. We don't have any seasonal flu shots, but we are expecting a shipment toward the end of this month. We are giving the H1N1 to all children 5 and younger, and to children at risk over 5 years. We are also giving the vaccine to all families with an infant 6 months or younger. Please call for an appointment.

Nov 15, 2009
We still have plenty of the seasonal FluMist for healthy children 2 years and older. We have a limited supply of the H1N1 injectable for children 6 months to 5 years, and those older than 5 years who have underlying medical conditions. We will be getting more of the flu shots by the end of November and more of the H1N1, of all types, next week. Google has a flu vaccine finder at www.google.com/flushot. More of the local pharmacies are also getting in the H1N1. The H1N1 seems to be striking the young harder. There have been 36,000 children hospitalized and 540 deaths in children over 18 years. Overall, there have been 22 million with H1N1 and 4,000 deaths. There have been over 10 million doses of the H1N1 given and no significant side effects other than local discomfort.

Oct 30, 2009
We are already out of all injectable flu vaccine, seasonal and H1N1. We expect more next week. The vaccines are going really fast and our supply changes on a daily basis. We will have enough for everyone eventually.

Oct 29, 2009
We now have plenty of H1N1 FluMist for healthy, non-egg allergic children 2 years to 24 years of age. Children under 9 years of age will require a booster dose one month after the initial dose. We also have preservative free seasonal flu vaccine in limited supply for infants and children over 2 years with chronic disease. We also now have the H1N1 injectible vaccine for children under 2 years and children over 2 years who have underlying chronic disease. The supplies of both injectables are in very short supply for now, but we expect that to change shortly. Please call for an appointment now.

Oct 19, 2009
We now have been notified that 4 year olds are able to receive the H1N1 FluMist vaccine. Therefore, we are now giving the vaccine to children ages 2 years to 4 years of age. Please call for appointment. Further information will be posted as we receive notification.

Oct 15, 2009
We have received a limited amount of H1N1 FluMist vaccine and as per the State Health Dept., we are only allowed to administer to healthy 2 and 3 year old children at this time. They must be current patients. Appointments will be made on a first come basis. There must be a one month separation between seasonal flu vaccines and the H1N1 FluMist vaccine. It is recommended for children 9 and under to have a second dose, but we cannot guarantee when we will get additional shipments.

Additional information on all other ages will be given at a later date. Please continue to check this website for the most current updates.

H1N1 vaccine: Our first shipment of the H1N1 Flumist nasal spray will be mid October. It will initially be rationed to healthy, non-egg allergic children 24 to 47 months. As more vaccine becomes available, the vaccine recipients will be expanded to include all persons 2 years to 49 years, who are healthy. I will post a specific date when we will start accepting appointments. We have not heard anything about the injectable form of this vaccine.

Seasonal flu vaccine: We have plenty of Flumist, for people 2 years to 49 years of age, healthy, and non-egg allergic. Right now we, as every one else, are out of the injectable form of this vaccine. The production of the H1N1 has caused the delay. We expect to have the flu shot in mid to late October. Still in plenty of time for adequate protection. I will post a specific date when we will have appointments again for the flu shot.

There are two types of flu vaccines. One for the seasonal flu, which is being given now and one for the H1N1, or "swine flu" that is due in October. The CDC recommends that everyone get their seasonal flu vaccine now. The information regarding the arrival of the H1N1 vaccine is sparse. I will update this site as soon as new information becomes available.

SEASONAL FLU VACCINE:

Get this done now. There is now, as of this week, a shortage of the seasonal flu "shot." There is plenty of the Flumist, or nasal spray. The reason for the shortage is due to the vaccine manufacturers having to make 2 different vaccines this year. The next shipment of the flu shot will be in October or early November. That is still timely for the seasonal flu vaccine since we usually start seeing seasonal flu in late December.

We have always welcomed the entire family to get their flu vaccines in our office. However, now with the shortage, we will temporarily have to save the vaccine for the infants, toddlers, preschoolers and for any older child who can't get the Flumist. We will resume giving adult family members the flu shot with our next shipment. I will update this site so you can make your appointments. Due to this inconvenience, we will discount the Flumist for all adult family members from $55 to $45. The Flumist can only be given to children 2 years and older and adults up to 49 years. It can't be given to egg allergic individuals or any patient with asthma or severe underlying disease. Children 6 months to 9 years who have never gotten the flu shot or mist need 2 doses spaced one month apart. Any child who has received the 2 doses in any previous year only needs one dose.

H1N1 "SWINE" FLU VACCINE:

This vaccine is expected in October. Who will get the doses, and will it need to be rationed is not known at this time. I will constantly be updating this site when I hear more information. Right now the nasal spray is expected before the shot. The nasal spray will only be for healthy, non-egg allergic people 2-49 years. Right now anyone 10 years and older will only need one dose. It is expected that the children 2-9 years will need 2 doses. The shot will be for 6 months and older, non-egg allergic people. The same 2 dose requirement will apply to children younger than 10 years. The H1N1 vaccine can't be given with the seasonal Flumist. Right now we understand that the seasonal flu shot and H1N1 shot can be given together. Since the government is supplying the vaccine, there will be no charge except a minimal administration fee.

I WILL KEEP YOU INFORMED AND WE WILL BE SETTING UP WEEKEND CLINICS TO HELP MAKE THIS EASIER ON ALL OF US. THANK YOU FOR YOUR PATIENCE AND UNDERSTANDING.
