Carolyn D. Ashworth, MD
Dr. Carolyn Ashworth was raised in Wisconsin. She completed a Bachelor of Science degree in Chemistry from Georgia State University. After two years of medical school at Emory University in Atlanta, she transferred to the University of Texas Southwestern Medical School and received her Doctor of Medicine degree in 1973.
After three years of pediatric internship and residency at Children’s Medical Center in Dallas, Dr. Ashworth was honored to serve as Chief Pediatric Resident for an additional year. After several years as a faculty member at UT, she established her practice in Plano in 1981. She continues as a Professor of Pediatrics, Clinical Medicine, at UT Southwestern.
Dr. Ashworth has served on many committees and was chosen to be The Chief of Staff at The Medical Center of Plano in 1996. Following that, she served out a 5 year term on the Board of Trustees at TMCP. She has been the President of the Plano Patient Physician Network, a group of 650 physicians, since its inception.
Many honors have been bestowed upon Dr. Ashworth in recognition of outstanding patient care. She has been one of Texas Monthly Super Docs for the last 7 years, honored in D Magazine for best pediatricians, and each year has been listed in America’s Top Pediatricians. One of her proudest moments was when she received the Health Care Hero of the Year Award from the Alliance for Excellence in Health Care.
Spending time with her family and two children is a priority for her. Cooking for family meals is a real treat.
Her personal interests include working out and Yoga. She has a brown belt in Aikido, a Japanese martial art and is certified in Muay Thai kick boxing. Dr. Ashworth is certified in SCUBA diving in Rescue and Advanced levels. Publications include her book, “Defeating the Child Obesity Epidemic.”
Travel is a real passion for Dr. Ashworth. She has been on every continent and has traveled to many remote places. Free time is usually spent reading and playing Angry Birds!
Charlotte McCutchan – Office Manager
Charlotte McCutchan serves as Office Manager and joined the Pediatric Associates’ staff in 1994. Before joining Dr. Ashworth’s practice, she served in a variety of roles in both office administration and education. Charlotte was born and raised in Oklahoma and moved to Texas to pursue her education as a business major at Southwestern AG University, and continued her studies at Crozier Tech while serving as an executive assistant in the insurance field. Charlotte is certified in Medical Office Management.
She lives in Plano with her husband, James, and has two children and two grandchildren. Her interests include sewing, crafts and volunteer work.
Brenda Rakofsky – Nurse Manager
Brenda Rakofsky, RN was born in Hillsboro, Kansas, but has spent most of her life in the Dallas area. She received her under graduate degree in nursing from Texas Woman’s University. She worked at Medical City Dallas for 12 years, first in the Pediatric Intensive Care Unit as a staff nurse, charge nurse and assistant nurse manager, and then on the Pediatric/Neonatal Transport Team.
Brenda joined Dr. Ashworth’s staff in 2000. She lives in Richardson with her husband, Paul, and has 2 grown sons.
Barbara Olschewsky, RN
Barbara was born and raised in Cleveland, Ohio, where she graduated from nursing school. She moved to Plano in 1978. She previously worked at Plano General Hospital for 14 years in their pediatric unit. In 1992 she started working with Dr. Ashworth and was nurse manager for five years until going part-time.
She lives in Plano with her husband and has two married (Aggie) sons and a granddaughter. She enjoys tennis, watercolor painting and gardening.
Karyn Mansell, Receptionist
Karyn originally came from the State of Utah. She has been married for 22 years, and she and her husband have five children. Her major was Elementary Education because of her love for children which Karyn states, “makes working for Dr. Ashworth the perfect place.
Sherrail Holder, Medical Assistant/Lab Manager
Sherrail was born in Waco, Texas. She is a loving mother of two adorable children. There are two things in life that she treasures “family time” and her “job”. She really enjoys being around children. Their little smiles are contagious.
